What Is A Good Partition Size on which to Test Windows 8 ??

I've looked through the tutorials and messages, but don't see discussion on a reasonable size for a partition on which to test Windows 8 with a few applications. The minimum for Win8x86 is 16GB and Win8x64 is 20GB, but would 40 GB be enough to insure room to install other apps and give Win8 a good trail?

Hello cyberbiker, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'd recommend at least 60 GB to be safe. This is what mine is using currently without much installed on it at all.

    Hope this helps,

Why not just use "boot to VHD" and use a differencing disk, you can then make the disk any size you want and not have to mess with partitions taking up unused storage? With my W7 & W8 dual boot the W8 VHD was set to 100GB but the file was only 12GB.

Thanks, guys. For testing Windows 8 RP on a Win7HPx86 computer it seems like creating a dual boot, expandable virtual hard disk (VHD) of 71680MB should do the trick. Using a VHD seems to offer maximum flexibility and I didn't read of any significant downsides.

You can still have a small partition size of like 40/50 GB then if you need more space you can make the partition size larger.

Are you referring to a hard partition or a virtual hard disk (VHD) one?
