Let me try to clear this up a bit. At first MS was not going to allow an upgrade of Win8 RTM to RP. Now they will. There are lots of links out there with the old news but there are now new ones with the change in requirements.

I imagine that to get the 39.99 version of the RTM your computer will be either scanned or you will be asked for a valid key of a previous version of Xp, Vista or 7. From there you can download and create a bookable DVD, boot the PC and use the new key you get for the RTM and do a clean install.

correct, that information seems to be based of RP and why concern is that the upgrade media will not allow such methods to be used. i am concerned that while a "clean install" in the sense is possible with the upgrade version a complete install from formatted drive is NOT possible, im still concerned, one way or another, that a previous windows version will be required on the HDD before the upgrade install will proceed.

A link to what? The rtm disk that was used was either a leak, or technet/msdn copy that is a full version...not an upgrade version. As far as I know, this upgrade ISO has not been distributed via any channels thus far.

I know that... I just was referring to the RTM that comes out on 8/26 and not a leaked version. My question is can I or anyone do a clean install over 8RP if you have say Win7 there before you did the upgrade to Win8 RP??

That tutorial is not based off the upgrade disc howver.
Your previous comment stated that the link to the instillation instruction would not work with the download RTM version.
So according to you I would need to get the Win8RTM from say, Amazon or Staples to do the clean install..

    Please correct me on this..

    And again TIA

Sorry, my comment was for the OP. You need an os on the hard drive to install the upgrade, but you can elect a clean install. However, if you format your hard drive first and then try a clean install with the upgrade disc, its not going to work. You would need a full disc for this.

thank you, although this sucks butt it's what i expected.

now, my next question, if i purchase the "upgrade" copy simply for the install key, can i use this key on a FULL OEM install disk (so that way i can install on a formatted drive)?

i get this also crosses into the questionably legal realm but in my mind it's okay because i'm purchasing an upgrade, for an upgrade, i just want to format my system first, (and i have a bad habbit of formating my system and completely starting fresh ~ every 12 months or so, so this is somewhat of a requirement in an install method)

i guess to better phrase the question would be is the upgrade CD-Key somehow 'tagged' as being upgrade only and not full or is it just a win8 pro key and doesn't care how its used as long as its used for win8 pro. i plan to torrent a OEM full win8 pro DVD after i purchase the key if this method is possible.

If you had a full oem disc, why would you not have a full oem key?

because as i stated i plan to torrent the full oem disc but purchase the upgrade key, since i technically am upgrading and its a helluva lot cheaper.
