Disk Format and other questions regarding installing W8 RP

I downloaded the W8 RP iso file from here.
I was reading that you can format the HDD at the beginning of the installation process. So no need to format with a thrid party software?
Also is it true that you can create multiple partitions with the installer?
I'd like to do a 20Gb partition for the OS and programs and the rest of the HDD for everything else.
Also it reads that my graphic card must have "DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver" What does that mean and how can I check it? And will it realy not work if I don't have it specificaly?

    Clean Install - Windows 8

If your using Win 7 I would make the 20GB partition with it, move the files you want to there and then do the instillation.
By choosing the option to do a custom instillation you can select the partition to install Win 8 on. Just pick the one that you want to install it on and you should be all set.

What is "DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher - Microsoft Answers
Your graphic card should be OK if your using Win 7/Vista or XP.

Yes, the Advanced drive options will let you delete, create, and format partitions during the install process.

Thanks for your anwsers Bunny and Alpha. I'm not sure about the WDDM driver because the graphic card is quiet old. I think I'll find out when I'll try.

you can unzip the ISO and run the setup.exe. That way you don't have to use the CD player.. or do you have a DVD??
EDIT: I used 7Zip to unzip the ISO image. Works just fine. HTH

Thanks Bunny for you reply. Yes, of course, I have a DVD player. But the computer doesn't want to boot on a DVD. It does boot on a CD-R thought. I burnt the iso file with Nero. I tried both DVD-R and DVD+R. I can read the files off the DVD, so I think it was burnt properly, yet not boot with it.
I tried to run setup.exe but it tells me that it expects a new version of Windows. Indeed the computer I'm trying to install W8 on has only W98SE installed. But why a setup supposed to INSTALL AN OS and supposed to run IN ABSENCE OF ANY OS needs another OS?
I have another computer with XP installed next to me but it's not able to connect to the internet. + I prefer not to test on this computer for other reasons.

You mean the RP is an upgrade only, not the actual OS? That you can't use it on a blank HDD? So why the formating options then? I don't understand.

RP has the OS. If your trying to upgrade a PC that had/has Win98SE on it one issue is that the HDD has a file system that is not NTFS. That could be why you get this:

I tried to run setup.exe but it tells me that it expects a new version of Windows. Indeed the computer I'm trying to install W8 on has only W98SE installed. But why a setup supposed to INSTALL AN OS and supposed to run IN ABSENCE OF ANY OS needs another OS?
Since Win8 is expecting a HDD with an NTFS file system and the old Win98SE was FAT file system and that could cause that message. This might help: Let me google that for you

It could also be an issue with the BIOS on that PC. Oh and here is some information on the DVD issue:
Let me google that for you

    EDIT:

The File System On my HDD is NTFS I would bet the one on the one you're trying to upgrade is FAT32.
