I was having a problem with my Firewall and I decided to use the refresh Windows option on the install disc to roll back Windows, but keep my files and settings. Worked like a charm, but now I have 2 instances of Win 8 on boot....even after I deleted the Windows.old files on C drive. How can I get rid of the 2nd instance to boot without having to select a boot option?

my previous problem thread that lead to the refresh Windows...

I am having a problem with Windows 8 64 bit system's Firewall. It is stopped, when I click run in services it says ---------------------------
Services
---------------------------
Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 5.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
dependencies are
Base Filtering Engine
microsoft Windows Filtering Platform
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
SCOM Server Process Launcher
RPC Endpoint Mapper
Windows Firewall Authorization Driver

I am running ESET 5 Antivirus

I was worried about Windows Command Processor. I keep getting a mysterious CMD window that would pop up everything I'd log into Windows. I was toying around with disabling all non Windows services and restarting to isolate the cause. It was when I went back to a normal boot that I had this happen. Ideas? Thanks in advance

Hello Sam, and welcome to Eight Forums.

For the 2 Windows 8 boot entries, you could use OPTION ONE in the tutorial below while in Windows 8 to delete the listed Windows 8 that is not the Current one. Be sure to set the Current one as the Default OS first, then delete the other one.

Operating System to Start - Delete OS on List at Boot - Windows 7 Forums

Since the firewall issue is different, you might create a separate thread for it in the System Security forum area instead for better helo with it.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn
