Windows 7/Windows 8 Dual Boot - No Boot Manager Loads

    Hi,

I had Windows 7 installed on my PC and I wanted to install Windows 8 in dual boot, so I bought a SSD and installed it and then proceeded to install Windows 8 on the SSD.

Now when I restart the computer, it just boots into Windows 8 without loading the boot manager where I can choose the OS.

Instead, the only way to get into Windows 7 is for me to press F12 and choose the other hard drive. I have attached a screenshot of Disk Management. Windows 7 is installed on Disk 0 (C) and Windows 8 is installed on Disk 1 (G).

How can I get the Windows 8 boot manager to show up?

    Thanks!

Hello akishore, welcome to Eight Forums!

To most people you have the desired boot set-up, a BIOS managed dual-boot but if you want a Windows managed dual-boot the easiest way to achieve that is to use the Windows 7 installation DVD to do 3 separate startup repairs, have a look at the tutorial at the link below for the procedure and be sure to post back with updates.

Open the System Screen (Windows key + Pause/Break key). Go to the Advanced System Settings, and then to Startup and Recovery settings. Under Default operating system, does it list Windows 7 and Windows 8? If yes, set the one you want as default and check the box for Time to display a list of operating system and set a time delay.

See if EasyBCD can help you, get it from here:

    Hi akishore,

I'm seeing the same issue as you - did you find a solution?

Win8 loads fine, and I can load Win7 by manually booting to that disk in the BIOS. But I want to use the Win8 bootloader. Automatic repair doesn't think there's a problem, and editing using EasyBCD causes a fall back to the old style bootloader (and subsequently choosing Win7 doesn't work anyway).
