What's changed in 2nd Preview Release

I have an older Dell machine(32-bit) with removable HD that I use more-or-less as a test bed. I had successfully installed the first Win8 preview release (Build 8250). However, the current release won't install; says my PC is incompatible. I'm curious as to what has changed in this new release.

The one thing I've seen so far that will absolutely prevent the install of 8 on older hardware is if the CPU does not support the NX (No eXecute) feature. This may not have been strictly checked for in earlier versions but is now. It allows the OS to mark data ram as non executable which stops a common virus attack vector.

Try googling your processor and "NX" and see if it supports it or not...

There is no 2nd Preview Release. Are you talking about the RTM (release to manufacturing version?. If so, where did obtain your copy from (MSDN, technet, etc)?

pparks1: Downloaded from Download Windows 8 Release Preview. Burned the iso disk and just assumed it was an updated version of what was already running on my old Dell box.

Hello, I guess you are talking about Windows 8 Release Preview, Well Release Preview [8400] has less flaws than Consumer Preview [8250].

You can check important noticeable changes:

Notable changes in Windows 8 Release Preview

Release Preview and current release i.e. RTM have differences in themes, Start Screen etc. and RTM is less buggy as well. :)

100% for sure, yes. Tested here. 0xc0000005 stop error at initial boot caused specifically by the check fail.

What a pain to get all the rendered useless OS data deleted on a drive with other info.
