Win 8 64 RTM, no go?

So I've got my copy of 8, and trying to install it on either a VirtualBox or straight up on a 100 gig partition I had just laying there on my HDD. Lets go with the VirtualBox issue first, shall we?

I'm quite experienced with VB having done most Linux distros and a few Win 7 installs, as well as Android. So Win 8 shouldn't be too much of a surprise but I followed a few guides online just in case. The only issue; I keep getting a "A Media driver your computer needs is missing..." right after "Setup Windows" screen. Huh? Whats missing? Windows 8 doesn't come with basic media drivers, or least is smart enough to ignore a simple driver missing that cant be needed for basic functionality? Hmmm..

So let's bring it back to the old fashioned way, DVD install. "Press any key to boot DVD...." easy. But it goes to a blank screen with an underscore cursor blinking at top. And its blinking. And blinking. And so on, and so forth... last count, 27 minutes. Nothings happening. No mention of this unknown Media driver, though. Hmmm

So whats the deal? I have a reasonably strong system, I call it the "Douchebag" as its beefy but all I do with it lately is watch porn. :) Its a i5 2500k with 8 gigs and Gigabyte UD4 mobo, a 128 gig SSD with 5 TB spread out over 4 HDDs, a Radeon HD 6870 graphics and a AVermedia hybrid TV card. Its no slouch. So whats this media driver issue and why cant I install it old school?

Ponder, Win 8 geniuses, I await your reply.

I would reburn your copy of Windows 8 to another DVD at the lowest burn speed.
Might be worth checking the download hash as well.

Do a dual-boot, but use a bootable USB instead of a DVD. Use this one, not Microsoft's because when I used Microsoft it didn't show my USB in the boot from menu.
For VirtualBox, try using the newest beta, 4.2.

Ok, tried the newer VB beta, same thing. Burning slow doesn't matter, have two discs burnt fast and slowest, same boot issue. I've dl'd a diff version, in VB, got FATAL: INT18 BOOT ERROR. Now I'm burning the newer version, seeing if it'll make a difference. I just cant believe I'm getting so many bad versions that cant work in any capacity. Could it really be my setup?

Sorry, don't have a large enough usb. I did, but my washing machine ate it. I'm not going to buy one when it seems its not the media, but maybe my system, or the version I dl'd. Checked my hash, all's good there.

Ok, going back to the DVD, wipe it clean, then re-burn your ISO, but at the lowest possible speed.

I forgot to ask, is this the TechNet/MSDN version or the leaked version?

I have the 64-bit Win8 (Eval copy of Enterprise) running in VB right now on my i5. No problems.

Try using a virtual CD set up (I use MagicDisk). Mount the ISO and point to it from within Virtual Box. The installation went flawless that way here.

Win7 on your i5?
