So I've got my copy of 8, and trying to install it on either a VirtualBox or straight up on a 100 gig partition I had just laying there on my HDD. Lets go with the VirtualBox issue first, shall we?
I'm quite experienced with VB having done most Linux distros and a few Win 7 installs, as well as Android. So Win 8 shouldn't be too much of a surprise but I followed a few guides online just in case. The only issue; I keep getting a "A Media driver your computer needs is missing..." right after "Setup Windows" screen. Huh? Whats missing? Windows 8 doesn't come with basic media drivers, or least is smart enough to ignore a simple driver missing that cant be needed for basic functionality? Hmmm..
So let's bring it back to the old fashioned way, DVD install. "Press any key to boot DVD...." easy. But it goes to a blank screen with an underscore cursor blinking at top. And its blinking. And blinking. And so on, and so forth... last count, 27 minutes. Nothings happening. No mention of this unknown Media driver, though. Hmmm
So whats the deal? I have a reasonably strong system, I call it the "Douchebag" as its beefy but all I do with it lately is watch porn. Its a i5 2500k with 8 gigs and Gigabyte UD4 mobo, a 128 gig SSD with 5 TB spread out over 4 HDDs, a Radeon HD 6870 graphics and a AVermedia hybrid TV card. Its no slouch. So whats this media driver issue and why cant I install it old school?
Ponder, Win 8 geniuses, I await your reply.
