Welcome Anusha :)

No, you should be able to log in Windows 8.

Please See: I guess you now have a metro boot menu, since you say you have 4 os installed, and Windows 8 was the latest installed os. If you install a Windows 7 now, you will lose the metro boot menu. It will be replaced by the text-based boot menu of the new W7 installation. Its difficult to bring it back. I so far haven't succeeded in doing so :(

Actually I have a lot of OSes installed in this PC (work related) and have 3 Windows installations + Windows 8RP installation. I need to install another 7 on it. I cannot start from the scratch.

What are the other three Windows Installations? So you have this many different partitions? What do you mean by saying install another 7? Do you already have a W7 among the other three installed os?

Actually losing the metro boot menu is a plus in my case.

I have windows 7 HP x64, windows 7 ultimate 32bit, windows 7 ultimate x64, windows vista ultimate 32bit, windows 8 release preview x64 already installed on this PC. All these are in different partitions. This is for testing printer drivers.

 Then Go forward and install W7. You should be able to boot in W8 normally, if nothing unexpected happens :)

One problem though. Can I disable driver signing in Windows 8 (by going through advanced startup options in control panel) without the Windows 8 boot loader?

I think you should be able, without the W8 boot loader. In the text based boot menu, highlight W8 and press F8 for advanced options.

Never tried 7 after 8 install but I think 8 will still remain on the boot list because the boot-loaders are much alike.

    That's basically it.
I had installed W7 after W8. Windows 8 remains in the boot list exactly like any other OS would.

I can confirm Arpan's post. I have done it several times without problems. The old Windows 7 text boot menu with 8 included. And yes, driver signing can be disabled as with 7.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.

Just a query here -- but surely if you basically just want to test printer drivers why not install all these as Virtual machines -- you'd only need a tiny OS for each VM if you were just basically testing printers.

Seems that this application is TAILOR MADE for using Virtual Machines. You can use VMware player (Free) VirtualBox (free) or even Virtual PC from Ms.

Hi there
that's fine - but without that piece of information VM's seemed to be the obvious way to do it.

The overhead actually of VM's these days can be really tiny -- and if you use something like HYPER-V on W8 -- FREE ( but it's a bit more complicated to set up) you can use "Pass thru" which means the VM can access the real hardware so your rendering time would be 99.9% accurate -- more than enough for the average printer user I would have thought.

I'm surprised that for this purpose if you really DO need to test this stuff out on Physical real machines that your company hasn't given you a second and possibly a third machine --- a machine for this purpose could be a quite modestly priced PC or even a used one. Without knowing the specifics it seems there are easier ways of managing the application than how you have to do it now.

Anyway good luck -- I haven't dual booted systems for YEARS now and have some old equipment such as an HP Plotter (still works fine) running perfectly on a W2003 server VM which is running on a W8 Host via HYPER-V. Works a treat.

Cheers
jimbo

totally off topic but perhaps you guys have a solution to a problem

I have some software that requires net framework 3.5 ( most of them do ), but when I try and install it wont let me as it tells me that net framework 4 is already part of the op system, why cant software I try and install detect that
