Seasons Greetings all,

I’ve tried to search other related posts on creating a recovery drive in Windows 8.1 but was not able to get past my current state.

I am using Windows 8.1 Pro upgraded from 8. I wanted to create a recovery drive but ran into a roadblock. Using a 64 bit ISO image I mounted, I converted the install.esd file from the “sources” folder to install.wim format. Below are two thumbnails of the command prompts. The recovery image has been registered and the location of the recovery image is now displayed but I still cannot create a Recovery Drive. The option to “Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive” is still not available.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? I feel I may have input a wrong prompt? Should the directory have been set to somewhere else?
Currently “install.wim” is located in C:\Win81-Recovery

Does it matter if the install.esd file is located in the same folder as install.wim?

Please advise,
Thanks in advance!

You have a Space in your Command
C:-\Win8.1

Remove the space between C: and \Win8.1

Hi KYHI,

Thanks for pointing that out to me - the extra space between the part of the command that has "C:-\Win81"
So to confirm, to correct this I should redo the command prompt as follows:

Open the admin level command prompt and type: REAGENTC /SetOSImage /Path C:\Win81-Recovery\INSTALL.WIM /Index 1

Thanks Samuria for the tip to use a disk imaging software to create an image. I have downloaded Macrium Reflect free and will review how to use this in the future.
