    Can't boot from cd...

Well, I posted a thread a long time ago about how I cancelled partition editor and windows would keep looking for repairs. So, I deleted the windows 8 partition in hopes of using my windows 7 one instead. That didn't work out because the windows 8 boot screen would still load with the attempting repairs thing. I kept trying things with partition magic but nothing would work so I deleted the windows 7 partition too. Then I was left with all the space in the hard drive so I wanted to install a new clean windows 8. I downloaded it, put it on a cd, and tried to but then I ended up not being able to boot from the cd. It would say boot from cd/DVD failed. Now I can't really do anything... It's weird because I can still get into the partition magic cd but not any windows installation one. I tied both a windows 7 and 8 installation cd but both couldn't boot up. I've had so much bad luck with this computer it kind of makes me laugh...

Simple fix: Just go into BIOS, and manually set the order to 1st boot device CD/DVD, 2nd boot device hard-drive. That should do it for you.

I did that. It doesn't have to do with the order. It says the boot failed so I'm guessing it's either the cd or the bios. I don't understand why one cd can work but another can't.

Take the CD/DVD in question to a KNOWN working drive and test it. Something so irrelevant as a piece of dust can trash a CD/DVD.

You're going to have to boot from USB, there is one on the Microsoft website. You do a clean install and you MUST REMOVE the USB after the FIRST reset or you will start to load a 2nd copy (DO NOT STOP IT) on to yours (and mine but I fixed it) it does take a few minutes of nail biting (in my case) before it actually starts again and voila it is on your system! Hope I helped!

One silly thing to check in BIOS is that the system clock is correct for your Date and your time zone within a few seconds.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved my bacon. When upgrading from Vista to 8, it changed the time zone. When I reset it to the correct time zone, my system time was off by 2 hours and I didn't bother to fix it.

I was trying to boot from a Norton Ghost CD to restore Vista. No matter how I set the BIOS boot order, it refused to boot from the CD.
