I have a dell XPS 8300 and run Windows 10 64 bit.

I am here because Win 8 forum seems to be a good link from 7 to 10.
I wanted to ask for help with an idea.
I have the OS discs for all OS's.7-10 and drivers for 7.
I was thinking of installing 7 from disc then updating drivers etc at the Dell site.
With any OS but 7, Dell will not recognize my PC because the desktop came with 7.
I had upgraded from 7 to 8 to 8.1 then to 10.
If I could upgrade all my settings like BIOS, network, audio etc I would have a stronger machine as my drivers are now old.
*Should I use the 7 disc first then go to Dell to upgrade all or just go to Dell after installation as 7 requires driver installation unlike the later OS's.
*After 7 is set should I use my ISO disc to install 8 then 8.1 or would that not be as good as upgrading online to keep these new drivers.
*I forgot exactly how to upgrade to 8 then 8.1 it's been so long, so could you briefly coach me.
I them could migrate to 10 online and be better off than I am now. Again I should do this online to keep the new drivers and not use a disc, correct?
I think avoiding discs would keep the new drivers but am not sure. I have images of 10 now and could make an image of each OS on the way up then consider the disc no good.
I know it is asking a lot but I would appreciate some help and thank you.

Please read my post again.
I want to make this machine better by updating BIOS A3 to A11 and drivers but Dell only recognizes it as 7 which was the OS when I bought it.
Once 7 is updated with all the latest, I then can work my way up to 10.
If I just recover an image or install 10 I'll be back where I started.

Thst makes no sense whatsoever the Dell drivers for Windows 7 will have no effect on Windows 10 as it will use its own driver's so your wasting your time and effort and adding problems in multi upgrades. A clean install will be the way to go

So the BIOS for example would not be changed if I did what I propose?

Bios is how the hardware can react with windows and can make a big difference as it often has hardware fixes and added hardware functions. you need to see what the update fixes there is normally a list. It doesnt effect windows directly but can have an effect if it updates bug fixes

I would have to install Windows 7 so Dell would recognize this PC; that is what I was getting at. Usually a BIOS update and some others mean the machine is more advanced or more capable. So, I was going o beef up the machine in 7 at Dell then move up to 8, 8.1 then ten- that is unless once the PC is beefed up at 7, I could just use the disc I made of 10.
Basically I do not know, after upgrading in 7, if I can just install the win 10 disc or if I have to work my way up online to maintain the upgrades I made with 7 at Dell.

I do not know MS-DOS.
Is this difficult?
I updated the BIOS on a PC years ago. If I remember correctly I downloaded the correct file to desktop then double clicked it as you would you install a new program. Is this about right?

It depends on what format you can download the update you often can just run it via Windows or they may offer MS-DOS boot to do it in this day and age it's normally bomb proof doing a update be sure to backup old BIOS first if given the option so you could role back

This is a recap;
If I want to upgrade my BIOS + got this PC as Win 7 yet am running 10 ,can I do it by reinstalling 7, upgrading the bios at dell then reinstalling 10?
Dell does not recognize my machine as 10 - it needs to be seven.

It is not hard doing the upgrade at Dell but I don't know the best way to get back to 10.

I don't think I can image because although the motherboard was upgraded, I think an image would negate the upgrade. Could I upgrade at seven then use one of my Win 10 discs to reinstall and still keep the upgraded BIOS?

So, if I reinstall 7 which it was when I bought it, upgraded the BIOS etc,how is the best way to keep the upgrades to get back to 10?
#1Samuria -Before I make a move I just wanted to be clear. The easiest place is at dell with 7. I just don't know howto get back to ten and keep the updates

Just to be clear you download the bios update for your pc from dell you then run the software to update the bios while your running win 10 why wont that work the bios update doesnt care what o/s your running

Dell will only recognize this PC with 7 as it came with windows 7.
That is why I must go there for the bios.
Then I was asking the best way to get back to ten. For example would an image recovery negate the bios update or not as it is a snapshot?
Or do I need to use the OS disc ?

So you are saying once the motherboard is flashed I can put any OS in it.

Your not listening there is no reason you can't update the BIOS from ten even if you have to run the upgrade software as win 7 comparable or boot from for to do it. If there is a problem tell us the error so we can fix it in ten

It said 'file' failed but then a box appeared so I continued to download and install. It said successful and rebooted. I checked MSINFO32 etc and it's good. I went from A3 to A6.
I listened finally and thanks. I wonder if the other drivers would work with 7 if urgent or leave them alone?

The Dell XPS 8300 range of PCs were never even tested for windows 10 by Dell, and are not supported, so obviously there are no Dell drivers available for any Dell specific hardware used in the system. Some people have reported That they have installed Windows 10 on the XPS 8300 and got it working using the default Microsoft supplied drivers, these will support the basics of the system but any specialist drivers will not be available so special keys of other hardware will not operate

Please tell me how to do this. I did see the new BIOS setting and did reboot. I don't know what you mean by clearing the BIOS.
