    This is a recap;
    If I want to upgrade my BIOS + got this PC as Win 7 yet am running 10 ,can I do it by reinstalling 7, upgrading the bios at dell then reinstalling 10?
    Dell does not recognize my machine as 10 - it needs to be seven.

    It is not hard doing the upgrade at Dell but I don't know the best way to get back to 10.

    I don't think I can image because although the motherboard was upgraded, I think an image would negate the upgrade. Could I upgrade at seven then use one of my Win 10 discs to reinstall and still keep the upgraded BIOS?

    So, if I reinstall 7 which it was when I bought it, upgraded the BIOS etc,how is the best way to keep the upgrades to get back to 10?
    #1Samuria -Before I make a move I just wanted to be clear. The easiest place is at dell with 7. I just don't know howto get back to ten and keep the updates

    Just to be clear you download the bios update for your pc from dell you then run the software to update the bios while your running win 10 why wont that work the bios update doesnt care what o/s your running

    Dell will only recognize this PC with 7 as it came with windows 7.
    That is why I must go there for the bios.
    Then I was asking the best way to get back to ten. For example would an image recovery negate the bios update or not as it is a snapshot?
    Or do I need to use the OS disc ?

    So you are saying once the motherboard is flashed I can put any OS in it.

    Your not listening there is no reason you can't update the BIOS from ten even if you have to run the upgrade software as win 7 comparable or boot from for to do it. If there is a problem tell us the error so we can fix it in ten

    It said 'file' failed but then a box appeared so I continued to download and install. It said successful and rebooted. I checked MSINFO32 etc and it's good. I went from A3 to A6.
    I listened finally and thanks. I wonder if the other drivers would work with 7 if urgent or leave them alone?

    The Dell XPS 8300 range of PCs were never even tested for windows 10 by Dell, and are not supported, so obviously there are no Dell drivers available for any Dell specific hardware used in the system. Some people have reported That they have installed Windows 10 on the XPS 8300 and got it working using the default Microsoft supplied drivers, these will support the basics of the system but any specialist drivers will not be available so special keys of other hardware will not operate

    Having updated the bios have you made a note of the bios setting then cleared the bios and rebooted if you dont it wont take effect and may go wonky

    Please tell me how to do this. I did see the new BIOS setting and did reboot. I don't know what you mean by clearing the BIOS.

    Normally n the BIOS is an option to restore default or there will be a jumper near the keyboard to clear it
