Solved Dell P20T Laptop wifi driver problem

Hi all, The hard drive failed and I had to re-install Windows 8.1. Naturally the network drivers were not in the ISO. I went to the Dell website to download the driver and there were 10 drivers listed under network adapters, but none of them worked. I searched under the numbe4rs and found a few drivers, but none of them worked. This machine does not have a LAN port so I tried installing a USB wireless network adapter but I couldn't get that driver to open the device. Has anyone got ideas about this?

What is the actual Dell model number? I can't find P20T. e.g. Inspiron 11 3270.
When I search for P20T on the Dell site I do not get any hits.

This is an Inspiron 3147. However, you should delete the picture with the service tag number. Dell considers the service tag number "personal info" and its forbidden to post the number on the Dell community (support) forum.

The correct install sequence on a Dell is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Laptop (or Desktop as applicable) Support Software (3) Install Intel Motherboard Chipset Drivers (4) Install Device Drivers including Video, Sound, Network, etc. The Intel Motherboard chipset drivers are critical for installing device drivers. One of the things the chipset drivers do is identify all the devices on the motherboard. If the chipset drivers are missing devices will either not be detected or detected incorrectly.

There are only 3 Network drivers listed for Win 8.1 on the Dell downloads, accessed by your service tag number.
Dell Wireless 1707 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Driver
Dell USB 3.0 to Lan Dongle Driver
Dell Airplane Mode Switch Driver

The Dell Wireless 1707 Wi-Fi driver is the one needed for wireless connection.

Here is the Dell downloads page, specifically for your S/N. (If you just access on the model number, there can be different hardware configurations and in that case drivers applicable to the different hardware are all listed. Accessing by the Service Tag number gets you the applicable drivers "as built".

DUH!!! I forgot to install the chipset drivers. I'm doing that now. I'll keep you updated.
