Try replacing the Install.esd with the Install.wim from your portable hard drive.

I think it would fail looking for a not available .esd file.

Guys I give up, thank you for the help. I am really close to get it but I am not an expert.

Following the strings in the file called $PBR_Diskpart I have deployed the install.wim and correctly set the boot. Unfortunately I have got windows 8.1 compressed in the partition where it should be, but it should be there as recovery partition and live OS...not just installed in the partition.

Another interesting thing is that the installed OS is a sort of raw OS slightly prepared from Asus...I think for an expert it would be a chance to get windows 8.1 with bing clean as provided from Microsoft but at the same time licensed for the device.

I'll download windows 10 installer and then I'll load a system image.

With a little hope I would contact a person who wrote a guide. The guide is made for people that have lost their recovery tool, but uses files adapted from him to get a wimboot installer(some of the strings are the same as mine). I already have all the files so maybe he can give some hints.

    see you next

There is a good chance that if you simply did "drap n drop", that you did not copy all of the recovery files. There are system files that are not as simple to copy. I successfully copied my recover partition onto a USB and the did a system restore in this thread: Recovery on New HDD using Recovery Partition copy on USB There is a "renaming" of a file but overall it is a fairly easy process once you get it setup correctly. The main thing is that your USB must be formatted to NTFS before copying the files. This may be another reason you are having trouble. Please read through my thread and you may find your answers. Good luck.

Hello guys I have restored the device.
After some failed procedures I have tried failing, as a last hope a friend of mine lent me a new pendrive where I have copied my files.
After selected all the options the process is started ending with a success instead to fail going back to the starting screen.

I have been so close to trash my device, when I was unable to also go back to win 10 because the media creation said "no available USB units" when I have correctly created installers until yesterday for a generic for 8.1.

I can't say why now worked and not before from another HDD and pendrive I own, but it seems that my idea to save the files was basically correct.

So I could mark the thread as "solved" and the solution is to make a backup copy of the recovery tool...but if then it would be not working on certain drives, who could tell why?

Let me say again than you all for the support.
