So I've asked this before, and I felt compelled to ask it again.

I have Win8, and like many others, we've been asked from my comp. to get Win10. For a long time now, I've said no because I heard of bugs and other things, but that has seem to be fixed now (I hope).

Also, my mom accidentally got Win10 on her laptop (don't ask how it was an accident) and nothing wrong there.

I have 8 days until this "free offer" goes bye-bye (unless thats a lie, but IDK). So as of now, how is Windows 10 and should I get it?

It's up to you. I've upgraded 7 or 8 machines so far and none have had any issues. There's a "1st Year Anniversary" update coming to Win 10 on Aug. 2nd which will be a fairly major update. If you upgrade now you'll be ready for that upgrade.

You have the opportunity to roll back to your previous OS for 30 days after you upgrade so why not do the upgrade, try it out for a few days and if you don't like it, roll back?

Or you can just make a system image of your machine now with current OS, upgrade it to get the activation, wait for the Redstone update, then link your digital license to your Microsoft account: Microsoft Account - Link to Digital License on Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums

Then you can reimage back to your original OS and carry on until it isn't supported any more, then reinstall Windows 10 later(or when you feel you are ready for it full time)

Everyone's experience is different ...

I've upgrade 5 machines from Win7 to Win10 and ALL had issues I had to resolve.

Two were so serious they could not be resolved, so I restored Win7 to those PCs.

Two had additional problems that kept reappearing, so at the owners' requests, I restored those to Win7.

The fifth one is still using Win10, but it is an HP laptop, and only a clean-install worked; the Upgrade failed over and over and over.

But, I would STRONGLY agree with imaging off your PC before attempting the Upgrade, that way, if you have problems later, you can get your working machine easily restored.

Good Luck

Seems like alot just to upgrade. My mom isn't having problems. I guess I could scan my computer before doing the upgrade to make sure everything is fine and clean.

Is it really worth it? Nothing wrong with my computer on Windows 8.

It's your choice really. The freebie for your current machine ends on the 29th. But The next PC you buy will have 10.
I had a laptop with Win7, and a Desktop with Win8.1(I really really liked 8.1 and will be putting it in a Virtual Machine after the GWX terror ends on the 29th) and upgraded to 10.

But you should make a system image of 8 before the upgrade(actually once a month, as a minimum, no matter what OS you have), so even after the 30 day revert period is over, if you decide you don't like it, or there are unforeseen problems, such as driver compatibility, you'll still be able to go back. I deleted my prior OS backups only after six months of using 10 on both computers, because I was 100% sure I didn't want to go back.

I don't know. I just wish this was simple: "should I get it?" a) "Yes, its simple, just click 'install'"" b) "no, not worth it. keep 8."

Really, its just the time clock counting the days. What Windows 10 is and the reaction since its release. I just wish it went away, or wasn't like this at all. Should I stop the "get Windows 10 for free" message that keeps popping up?Maybe that's the problem, being reminded, lol.

It's not that simple because each user has to answer that question for themselves. No one can say for sure that your computer won't have issues after upgrading and no one can say for sure whether you will like Win 10 and want to keep it.

But...

I have 1 day and 22 hours left to get Windows 10.

I just want this to go away, so I don't have to think about it, lol.

That's ok, after the time was up, I installed Windows 8.1 in a Virtual Machine:).
Now just to get everything set up, and find my way back around.
I loved 8 before the upgrade to 10, but the inability to adjust app sizes on the desktop, does bug me now:(
I can always minimize though.

I have 8.1 already. Sure 10 looked good, but there are things from 8 and 8.1 that aren't in 10, such as the Windows menu. If it ain't broke, don't fix it; when upgrading, make it good. 10 didn't give me that so I decided not to get it.

Though now I wonder if something will happen that'll make me regret it. So far, nothing yet. I like to keep it that way.

I doubt it:)
Eight, which was the OEM install when I bought my desktop, only gave me problems with updating, and that, because at the time I was on a metered connection using Vodafone USB mobile broadband. Otherwise I NEVER had a problem with the operating system or using 3rd party apps, and it was solid as granite:thumb:

I'm an "OS whore" and like to try out, or use, as many operating systems(Windows & different Linux distributions) I can:eek:
I just like 10 the best, myself.

On the next PC you buy 10 will be installed, so you'll get it sometime.

Something to be careful with if running windows 8 is that due to the way that updates/upgrades/service packs are handled Windows 8 may be out of support unless/ until the windows 8,1 update is applied.

It's very confusing as the rule was set in place when Service Packs were the major update route, Microsoft would support systems with or without the service pack for a set period after the release of the Service Pack, (2 or 3 Years).

I have heard that the 8.1 update /upgrade was being treated as a Service pack to Windows 8 rather than and update / upgrade to a New Windows Version and that the support for Windows 8 has ended, (apart from some security updates), ( this caused issues for some users where their hardware would not meet the 8.1 requirements which meant they could not update to 10 as at the time 8 was not a valid upgrade path to Windows 10

I did the free upgrade from 8.1 to 10 ; played with it for a week; went back to 8.1.
Happy & content!
(10 is not for me ~ I like my Classic Shell 8.1)

There are no privacy issue as far as I am concerned just some useful telemetry that will help improve the OS.

There we a lot of websites making all sorts of things up to sell advertising but when they were asked to prove what they were saying they could not ;)

I have one thing to add to Nigel's post.
Here is a link to Microsoft's TechNet site, the page is for Enterprise version, but it has a good description of what Microsoft means by Telemetry, and also describes what Telemetry is NOT: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us...your-organization?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
