Problem loading Win8, Dual boot with 7?

Well, after trying the OS out in a virtual machine, I made up my mind to try it in native form. I set aside 30gb on my primary hard drive where Win7 currently lives, in a separate partition, gave it a name, and boot from a usb drive containing an active load of all files for win8. I get up to the point where I am to select a partition to load 8 on, where by I get a message that setup cannot load Windows on my selected partition, please view setup log for details. Where do I find this setup log, and does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? Driver issue? 7 loaded fine. Any advice appreciated!!

The partition for Windows 8 must be free - no files.
Select custom install and format the partition in question again.

Windows 8 can be installed to primary or logical partition.
Win8 boot files will go to active partition (either "System Reserved" if you have one or Windows 7 partition).

There are no files on it. I have tried deleting the the partition, and recreating both from within windows 7, and from within setup. It still does not want to work for some reason. It should be a completely clean 30gb partition on the same hard drive where I currently have my windows 7 installed. The hard disk is essentially has 4 partitions currently. One the sys reserved for win 7, another the OS for win 7, a 3rd for my profiles in Win 7, a 4th for Win8 at 30gb. No matter which program I use to format, partition, whether win 7 or win 8 setup, it fails. Any further advice?

See how much space you have in the 100mb partition.

I cannot because it is hidden. No way of knowing how much is free and how much is used that I can see.. It does not show it in setup, and it does not show this info in disk management either..

As an alternative to a separate partition, try a VHD installation instead:

I just had to disconnect all of my usb drives. That worked.
