I have delayed upgrading to Windows 10 due to concerns about privacy in Windows 10.
How long is the free upgrade offer available for? I am using Win 8 Profeessional, Euro edition.

The free upgrade is available until July 28, 2016. After that there will be a cost (as yet unannounced) unless the policy is changed. Once the upgrade is done it is valid for the life of the device. You cannot transfer it to another.

I guess that the activation will expire if, for example I change motherboard or hard disk, correct?

You would be able to replace the motherboard with an exact replacement or one designated as such by the manufacturer if the original was no longer available. An upgraded motherboard would likely be seen as a different computer and activation would fail. Replacement of the hard drive or other components is not a problem.

I don't want Windows 10........My question is, after the July 28, 2016 date expires, and I have not upgraded to Windows 10, will Microsoft continue to send me updates for this at a cost? Thank you.
