    Windows 8 to 8.1 upgrade

I am unable to download the windows upgrade to 8.1 64bit from windows 8 64bit, How else can I get the update?I'd also like to take advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 before the end of July, but for that I'll have the same problem I can't download the file.

Hello Stars, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please elaborate more about why you are unable to download the ISO file?

Perhaps we may be able to help with that.

The ISO file is just too large, so I can't download a file of that size. I had no problems in the past doing the service pack updates on XP or on Vista, but those were different and they were much smaller.

What's preventing it from being downloaded?

Is it over your allowed downloads from your ISP? If so, could you download it on a friends network that has enough to let you?

The internet isn't the greatest where I am from, so it's a challenge to even download files that are 400 mb total. That is even counting resuming downloads a couple times. There's a good amount of people who still use dialup around here, because of the expensive and poor quality DSL and Cable options are.

I'm not sure what else you could do other than to possibly purchase installation media.

The upgrade would need to download the installation media as well before it could update.

I was looking to see if Microsoft still sold a disc with the free updates (like service packs in the past), where you'd only pay the shipping, but I couldn't find it for the 8.1 update. If I can just get the files to install the update to 8.1, I know it'd work. Seems silly you can't just do the upgrades while offline, then have it update when you go online the next time. Since some people don't have unlimited data each month, or the cable/dsl is even slower then dial-up at certain times of a day.

I'm not aware of anything like that available for Windows 8 or 10 other than full blown installation media.
