Can't use recovery partition..

I have a ASUS Transformer Book T200TA and it was 16Gb, 8Gb (or just shy of for 8.1 pro) the remaining as recovery. So I moved recovery partition to external hard drive and extended volume to give the tablet plenty of free space as without it I only downloaded 2 programs and was informed of low space. My partner wanted to upgrade to windows 10 and performed a clean install but as we have no key it is now asking to be activated. so we need to reinstall 8.1 pro but we cant access the partition as it is ntfs and the SSD on the tablet will only accept fat32, is there a way of using the recovery partition to reinstall windows or if not extract the product key..

Well. needless to say, you messed up pretty good... but with that said, I will try to help..
First Do you have access to another windows 8.1 Pro PC ??
Second you need to access that recovery partition from another PC
Need to see what files and folders are contained on that recovery partition..

You can copy all those files to a USB and then boot from that USB, as that partition was a bootable partition..

That USB should allow you to restore your PC back to the factory setup..

also un-hide the file extensions..

Pretty sure the reason for not coping all to fat32 is going to be the install.wim is greater then 4GB

was your PC - UEFI with a GPT disk-- if yes has to be fat32
if not you can use NTFS formatted USB

Edit: although pretty sure it was uefi and wimboot..

Need to use RUFUS to format the USB for use with GPT / NTFS first..
then you can copy files to USB in NTFS format

ok I try xcopy t:\ j:\ /e /h and I get File creation error - the parameter is incorrect
it looks like tis error is caused by that fat32 file system

OK Great I have created a Gpt partition scheme for uefi with a file system of ntfs, copied the recovery partition to the stick excluding system volume information now all I have to do is boot from the memory stick?

right I created a GPT Partition using rufus and an evaluation copy of 8.1 enterprise, deleted the contents of the stick and copied all files from my recovery partition excluding "System Volume Information" when I restart I get ERROR: NTFS Partition could not be mounted: [14] not found..

After getting in touch with the Microsoft forum, they said that winload.efi was missing and usually the product key is embedded in the BIOS/UEFI so I decided the easiet way was to purchase another product key for 30 euro and roll back to 8.1 pro..

Thank you KYHI

What did the tablet come with for an OS ??
Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10 all come from the OEM with a Firmware Embedded Product Key

No need to purchase another product key - just reinstall original OS (if 8 then 8.1)
