Grub Rescue after following partition instructions

I have this NUC. Msata and SDD.
I believe it to have been hacked.
MS zero help only wanted money.
Intel sent new device.
Wish to install my 8.1 Pro with my valid product key.
Upon attempting to install Win8.1,with USB media,it would not allow me to install to the Msata stating it was MBR and must be GPT, and after accepting my product key as valid.
I never attempted installing on the SDD.
Followed instructions to reformat and MSata showed a partition remaining of unallocated space.
Then it failed to see my valid product key as valid.
Upon rebooting I've only been able to get to BIOS or the Grub Rescue Command Prompt Screen "file system unknown"
I have typed in the "ls" command and got output.
No attempts to assign have been succesful.

I am unable to install windows on either the msate or sdd. The SDD has no partition showing.
I have tried with:
Msata and SDD installed

Msata removed/SDD installed

Msata installed/SDD removed

I attempted to do so thinking my installation media may now be corrupted although it worked fine prior and was doing fine except when the MBR/GPT issue presented itself.

EDIT: Got my win7 machine fixed after 1.5 years of it being jacked. One of its ram sticks was bad.

So, Any suggestions on how to install 8 in the face of grub rescue?

It would be unusual to find an XP machine that allows booting from USB; so to boot that, you would need a DVD.

I have my win7 machine working now so need to find out how to get 8 on the new device again.

Interestingly enough, the thumb drive previously used to install win8 cannot be formatted by either of my windows machines. I'll look into it with an android.
Thanks

So guess I'll need to create a new install media and see what happens. None of my win machines or androids can see into it or reformat it. Maybe I'll drag an old linux machine out or find one up and going.

Have you tried using either RUFUS or Minitool Partition Wizard?

Got both RUFUS and MiniTool Partition Wiazard. Rufus appears to be formatting the install media jump drive.

Any idea about my being able to reformat the MSATA, using either tool, while installed in the NUC and assuming I can USB to USB connect the NUC to my Win7 device? I am pretty sure I have the cable to do that. I am somewhat concerned about hooking it to my win7 device since I know that it corrupted the install media, rendering it so that it did nothing and read as nothing when plugged into WIN and Android devices. I have no idea what is on the tiny "unallocated" partition after converting from MBR to GPT or what else it can do.

I know it's a shame MS had no interest in having a copy of the disk image unless I paid them either 99.00 or 149.00. The event log is very interesting.

I have an adapted to power up and connect HDD and SDD's to USB, but, nowhere for the MSATA to plug in. The new SDD can be plugged in although I hope it is fine as is.

The MSATA is new and under 3 year warranty, however, if I can make it work without having to send it to the other side of the world, that would be excellent. EDIT: The Msata's manufacturer offers no formatting tools, low level or otherwise, for its products.

Should I put RUFUS portable onto the reformatted jump drive and give it a try before using it to create my installation media?

I reformatted the media and it has a file folder full of small files and then some autorun icon along with an autorun readme blurb. I was kinda expecting it to be blank. Are those files needed or should I reformat it now with plain windows?

Don't understand what you're trying to do. RUFUS will "burn" an ISO to a USB stick and make it bootable, and it formats the USB stick in the process. There is no need, or use in, formatting it yourself.

1) It reformatted the jump drive. It left many files as described. I've yet to make any ISO on it. I find this disturbing as I'd think the reformatted jump drive should be blank.

2) Back to the NUC's Msata and it's persistent grub recovery issue.

Output from grub rescue "ls" command is : (hd0) (hd0, msdos1) (hd1)

I am of the belief that hd0 is the grub'd Msata with the partition containing unallocated space.

This Msata was converted to GPT from MBR because Win8.1 would not install on it for that stated reason.

After doing so, it rejected the product key, then when rebooting, has been stuck at a mostly unresponsive grub rescue.

It also appears the product-key-independent USB install media was corrupted or somehow jacked in the process.

I can get into BIOS.

I believe the (hd1) to be the SDD that appears to be clean and blank.

a) Can or will either the partitioning tools you specified be used to low level reformat the Msata while it is installed in the device?
b) Portably or via USB hardwire from computer to computer?
c) Not necessary?
d) Low level correction of the partition problem nothing to be concerned about?

So, no assistance with this grub rescue partition issue? Thus far I've only managed to get the usb jumpdrive formatted and haven't attempted to create another install media from it as I have no reason to believe it will do any differently since it appears something is jacked on the Msata that I want to install win 8.1 onto again. I have concerns about attempting to install it again as it is.

Should I attempt to reformat the Msata?

If so, how?

Should I send it back for replacement?
