Windows 10 roll back to windows 8 help

I have a HP laptop that had the Windows 10 upgrade applied to it. The user decides he does not want Windows 10 anymore as some of his software has stopped working and wants to go back to Windows 8.1.

So I look at doing the roll back and the it says he can only go back to Windows 7. He says he has upgraded to Windows 8 from 7 and then to 10.

Can he only go back to Windows 7 and then will have to upgrade back to 8?

Select "Go back to Windows 7".

Step Two:

Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8

Upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 8.1
