hello everyone,

so, i want to restore my asus laptop using the recovery partition. so i pressed F9 and recovery partition booted up, but i remembered to backup my data. i closed recovery but it got stuck booting into recovery, then i used windows 8.1 installation media repair option but it put computer into nothing booting and keeps restarting after asus logo. so i installed windows 7 on a new partition and that worked, i entered my original windows and backed up my stuff. but now recovery partition won't boot and hitting F9 only shows windows 7 as a boot option. so i formatted and reinstalled windows 8.1, and nothing happened.
so i typed command
1 - reagentc /setosimage /path E:\ sources /index 1 /target c:/windows
2- reagentc /enable
3- recoverydrive
but copy recovery was greyed out

I think you deleted or disconnected you recovery partition with the installs of 7 and 8.1.
At this point download the ISO for the legal product Key you have. Download your hardware drivers from Asus Support Downloads and Clean install.

Windows 7

Windows 8.1

Windows 10

verify that the Install.wim or Install.swm(s) are in the sources folder on E

post a screen shot of the files and folders on E
and the sources folder

Can't say I have ever seen a recovery image in a Source folder

Windows 8/8.1 does not create it's own recovery images or files anything like what your showing

the FACTORY OS RECOVERY is on E:
copy all the files and folders from your Recovery ( E:\ ) to a USB Flash Drive
and then boot from that USB >

that partition use to be a bootable partition
the partition also contains several other files that are referenced during recovery..
that partition will restore the Factory OS and Software

ALSO WONDER,
If you could just mark that partition as ACTIVE and be able to use the F12 Boot Menu to select it..
diskpart
select disk 0
list partition
select partition #
active

when I copy recovery bcd file can't be copied because "file is open in System"
so I skipped it, but when booting from usb an error came up concerning bcd file.
how can I copy it?

that partition is also your System Boot Partition . thus the boot files may have been over-written anyway

What version of windows came with your PC ??

I can't install windows 7 from software recovery with my product key because it was preinstalled. is there a way to use recovery or copy bcd file?

If 7 was preinstalled, then the asus.swm files will be the asus 7 osimage. Shouldn't need to be activated.

When is it asking for a product key?

thank you all the problem was fixed.
what i did was to first create a recovery image from windows 8 control panel, so that BCD file would be created on the usb.
then i copied all asus recovery partiton files except for boot folder. after that i copied the content of boot folder from recovery partiton to the boot folder in the usb, so that bcd file would be in the usb.
i then booted the usb i created and it worked :D.

thank you all.
