Moving folders from an SSD drive to other drive

Hello

I recently bough a PC that came with Windows 8.1 installed (can not move to Win 10 at this time) on the SSD drive and in order to preserve SSD space would like to move as many folders that were created as part of the installation but are not critical for Windows operation, like (maybe) the Documents folder to a non-SSD drive.

1. Which folders can be moved (and can not be moved) and is there a proper way of doing so that also changes all of the internal references that might exist?
2. can the default folder used in an install process (Programs Files) be changed to a folder (i.e. NonSSD Programs Files) that is on a non-SSD drive. I suspect that the original Program files and Program Files (x86) must remain as installed.

There is very little software installed at this time (which can be reinstalled) and would like to do so before installing any more more.

Thank you

Hi ZT:

thanks for the reply, I'll check out the thread.

MY SSD is 232GB with 175GB free at this time and hardly have any software installed. One of the problems with using it is that my trading platforms retain a lot of stock and futures data under the Documents folder which is on the SSD. These files get rather large and can quickly use up a lot of space and unfortunately I can not control where the software puts them

That sounds like a good reason to move Documents to a large drive for sure.
