My pc is a part of a domain and when trying to upgrade it does not give me the option to keep apps & settings, either keep personal files or nothing. Have tried all sorts of Win8.1 Ent ISO's, last one I tried was the en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382, but same problem

I have run sfc /scannow, but no problems was detected.

Currently installed windows version:

Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise
6.2.9200 Build 9200
x64-based PC
Locale United States
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.2.9200.16384"

Have tried running this upgrade both from the iso mounted within Win8.0 and booting from usb stick (also tried other stick), but after selecting the upgrade option it just gives me: "The computer started using the Windows Installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally..."

Also tried downloaded both SW_DVD5_SA_Win_Ent_8.1_64BIT_English_MLF_X18-96759.ISO above & SW_DVD5_SA_Win_Ent_7_64BIT_English_Full_MLF_X15-70749.ISO, but neither gave me the "Keep file & settings option".

Have tried all these iso's:
en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_4065178
en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382
en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902
SW_DVD5_SA_Win_Ent_8.1_64BIT_English_MLF_X18-96759

Only thing It allowed me was to refresh the install with "en-gb_windows_8_enterprise_x64_dvd_922086.iso", but it did not help anything.

I'm out of solutions - please help ?

I'm having a real difficult time finding this iso - everything is torrent site which is slow & unreliable.

Why are you updating it? Why not let the Company IT guy do it? He would have access to the correct install media.

I have decided to switch the 8.0 Ent with "UpDown8 - Windows 7/8 Upgrade/Downgrade Helper" down to 8.0 Pro.

Then easily upgraded it to 8.1 Pro downloaded from Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help

So at least I'm at 8.1 now (which was the original idea) even if it is Pro and still have all my settings, pc domain account & apps

Now downloading the elusive en-gb_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054383 & then will attempt to switch it back to Enterprise.

Where did you get your Pro Key? You'll also need an Enterprise key and access to your companies KMS server. Might want to give the IT guy a heads up or you'll have no way to activate Enterprise once your done.. You could get fired at some companies for doing what your doing by the way. It wouldn't be me.

You do know that Enterprise is excluded from the free upgrade to Windows 10 offer right? If your planning on running Windows 10 Enterprise you'll be doing this all over again in a couple of weeks.

I got the Pro Install key from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

And you are right - it can bring me a lot of trouble, but I'm willing to take the chance:busted:

Our company is mostly still running Windows 7 Ent with a couple of win 8 installs, and they are not in a hurry to go to win 10 as there are too many apps incompatible with it.

I'm not just doing this to get to 8.1, but I'm also very interested in learning Windows 8/10 inside out :)

That's a setup key, and won't activate by the way. You have to do a change key after setup to your company supplied KMS key.
