Hello!

This is my first post!

I have Windows 8.1 Pro, Custom PC. Setup but didn't change to UEFI setting under BIOS.
I have been trying to change my system disk to GPT, Using various LiveCD's but I keep ending up with a MBR drive.

Anyone got a way of converting my disk to GPT without a reinstall?

Thanks

It is possible with gdisk, but not easy.

Another way may be to try one of the imaging programs which can restore an image to gpt disk.

I believe aomei can , make the image of your current install partition and then use aomei linux boot disc to restore to gpt disk. I think paragon can do it also.

Be sure to back up your data before trying this.

First off - what are your BIOS setting ?
You have to enable UEFI and disable Legacy/CSM

Another way to force a UEFI booting is to rename BOOTMGR on the setup media to BOOTMGR.old

Now that you have the OS the way you want it - use Macrium or Acronis or Aomie Backupper to make a backup Image of your current C partition

Reinstall windows 8.1 using the setup media (with bootmgr renamed) and let it setup your Partitions, after you create a user name.

restore the backup image of drive C you created to the New C partition

I agree with SIW2. after converting to GPT, you can go to bios to change to uefi boot mode.

when you convert to GPT - you will need to create two partitions a FAT32 efi partition and a MSR partition - and then run bcdboot to restore the boot files.. There is more to converting a MBR disk to GPT then just clicking convert...

If it was that easy - diskpart - select disk 0 - convert GPT

BUT IT IS NOT THAT EASY..
