Windows 8 to 8.1 / 10 | Can't update or Upgrade

I currently have an activated Windows 8 on my PC, yet I cannot upgrade to windows 8.1 nor windows 10 (pre reserve) from the store. I have checked on the official help page and all it suggests it to get 2 updates (KB2871389) ,(KB2917499) but they are not there. I have also tried to manually download them and run them, in which it tells me my version of windows is not suitable. I have automatic updates enabled as well. I do not own a special edition of Windows 8, which the help page suggests would be the cause. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Edit: I have already wsreset.exe and it still does not show up/ update.

I have now upgraded to Windows 8.1. However, it says my product key has already been used (same one i was using for windows 8).

Where did you get your copy of Windows 8.0 from? What type of install is it, factory OEM, retail?

I purchased windows 8.0 from microsoft from windows 7, but there were some troubles (this was a few years back so i dont remember) and i ended up getting a windows 8 official iso and being sent a key with 75% off, which i have the receipt for. all it said on the email receipt was 'Windows 8 product key'.

Ok how did you do the upgrade? You haven't installed with this key on more than one PC right?

Ok how did you do the upgrade? You haven't installed with this key on more than one PC right?

Nope, I believe i used the windows 8 upgrade application thing. Either that or i got the separate iso and went by that. If you are referring to the windows 8.1 upgrade then i managed to get an iso from the previously linked site and then entered the key there, which it said was valid at the time. after the installation the error message appeared saying that it had been entered too many times - but surely if this was true then the windows 8.1 upgrade would of rejected my key? If there is any way to unattach a key from all computers so i can reapply it that would be great.

I'm just trying to nail down the exact steps you used to go from 8.0 to 8.1. And why you even had to enter a key. This ISO and key you got for 75% off, where did you get that from? It sounds like you may have gotten ripped off and that key has been soled to more than one person.

It was from Microsoft, as I said I have the email receipt from them. I believe the upgrade to windows 8 was done by the windows update program.

Not knowing what you did or how you did the upgrade I can't really offer any advice other than it may be time to call Microsoft about the key issue.

a windows 8 to windows 8.1 upgrade via the media creation tool - should not ask for a product key
and re-activates the windows 8 product key to activate 8.1

I think the OS is trying to activate the SETUP media key and not your windows 8 key
or the key has been used on another system and requires phone activation

also what edition of windows 8 did you have?
and what edition of windows 8.1 did you download ?
