I brought my tower (NO OS) and OEM win 8.1 disc separatley - It installed fine - but now seems in a sorry state - windows updates don't work, I can't access the store.
I thought the easiest thing to do would be to wipe and reinstall - but then I stumbled accross a thread about de installing the 8.1 license key ?

Would I need to de install my key - before I re use it on the same machine ?

No, should be no issues if reinstalling on the same hardware. You can't de-install the key anyway. It's already tied to that PC/motherboard once you activate on that hardware the first time. You'll only have iisues if you try to use that key on another PC.
