I put it off despite disappointment and agitation until I really got to the last straw because I was just busy and also it took me awhile to get reaquainted with windows. Needless to say it wasn't a good re-acquaintance and It was a shock realizing how much of my XP & linux based computer knowledge was useless... god I didn't have to deal with any of this. But I also couldnt get a lot of games to run.
one other thing when you boot the USB media you need to hit one of the F Keys not sure which one it is for you but my Asus is the Esc key some are f12 or f8 or F9 which ever one brings up a boot menu from that menu select UEFI USB --- not just the USB --- that will start the install in UEFI very important step.
    Thank you

f12 brings up boot menu and f1 brings up boot setup for me. Boot menu is just choice between hard drives and the usb.... let me check if it says UEFI specifically. I do know there's only one option though. If it doesn't say UEFI when I check this time I'll post back with a camera pic. My BIOS looks different from about 95% of bios pics I see on here. Lots of toshiba & asus pictures on here.

And to double check- BIOS should be set to only uefi with csm enabled, correct? NOT legacy & uefi mode. Just formatted the USB again according to directions by immersive and got the USB set up so I do believe I'm ready to try again.

Will make sure to hand out karma (or whatever it's called at this forum, if I can give it already) when I am done for the help
here is a good Tutorial on how to install win 7 UEFI pay attention to how you edit the ISO to make it bootable UEFI if your USB is not showing UEFI USB then it is only booting MBR and you will probably get an error message.

I followed that tutorial word for word. Checked at the end for GPT and it's correct.

I have this type of USB (different brand but mine has SDHC card sticking out of it too) is that an issue..? I was told it wasn't but I'm starting to think the person I asked was wrong.

Maybe I just need to go to walmart.....-_-

To be honest I really don't know, this is the first time I seen anyone try? Since your still having issues its something to try, 8 GB USB thumb drives are about $ 10 or so at Walmart

You edited the boot file so that it can find he EFI boot?
    4) Now here's the hard part. Preparing the flat copy for UEFI.

    Go to the
EFI folder, make a new folder in there called "boot".
    Now go into the
"Microsoft" folder which is in the EFI foler. Then boot, and copy the contents.

    What it should look
    like

Put that into your boot folder you just made.

    Now that's
done. Go to the Sources folder which is in the root
    Here!
    Scroll
down to boot.wim, and right click, 7 zip and open archive.
    Now go into the
    folder called "1"
    Example
    Image

Go to Windows > Boot > EFI
    Scroll down till you see
bootmgfw.efi and extract this to your desktop (click on it first, then press
    extract button at the top)

Now cut that file you extracted to your
desktop, and put it into EFI > boot.
    Where to put the
    file

Once you've done that, just rename it to bootx64.

Yes I definately did that. I did all of it very carefully, double checking. I havent tried booting it yet though since I was wondering if it not showing up as UEFI could cause it to half install and really mess stuff up. I don't know how serious that is.

could it be possible that my BIOS just doesnt distinguish between USBs? (or rather doesnt show that it distinguised to me)
My directory looks exactly like those in the screenshots, I'm positive.

Perhaps it always looks the same because the BIOS only reads the SDHC USB reader, and not the card inside, instead of my windows system which reads it as a drive? When I plug the thing in it does say "installing" if it's been a while so maybe it just can't read it..... I dont know, though.

Would it hurt to try booting it now and then if it doesnt work I can just go to walmart?

    Yayayayayaya it's installing now

    Key points I missed were:
    Using vanilla iso
    Using the right port lol
Copying boot folder in addition to altering boot.efi(did that before)

    And now yall techies know:
You can indeed use a sdhc reading usb to do this

    Mutually beneficial, no?

Props to everyone I'll be heading to seven forums for.optimization and whatnot...
    Super cheers!
    -Caitlin

p.s. I will startck around incase there's any closing advice or things you think I should check before the final happy dance... It is indeed installed now tho and I'm starting to fix er up
