Rookie Q - USB 8.1 booting query

Hi,
I was just curious whether there was any downside from updating to 8.1 via USB rather than through the store?
Coming from a fresh windows 8 can I simply instal 8.1 on top?
Or must I install the windows updates that are required to instal 8.1 via store method regardless for the USB boot to work?

You are better off just doing a clean install of windows 8.1 - no need to install windows 8 anymore..

But to answer your question - if you have windows 8 installed and want to upgrade to windows 8.1 via setup media - just insert your 8.1 media and run the setup.exe from within windows 8
