Solved Rookie Question - USB Booting

Hello,

I'm trying to boot Window 8.1 off my USB drive. I've created a bootable USB drive using Rufus-2.1. I'm having some troubles.
I don't know where to install Window 8.1 to. I don't see the USB drive in the partition menu when installing Window 8.1.

The steps I followed.
1: Download ISO file and Rufus.
2: Create a bootable USB, and indeed it works.
Now I'm stuck at installing Windows because I don't know which partition to install Windows to.

The highlighted partition above is where you want to install to.

@derekimo Thank you. Drive 0 P4 is my main drive(as it seems). This would not erase the data I already have on that drive, would it?

Looking at the present screenshot of your fixed disk - if you install to partition 4 - Yes it would over-write the data on your C drive..

Are you look to install windows onto your PC or are you trying to install windows on a USB Drive (Windows to Go)

Since most USB devices are considered removable drives.. Windows setup will not allow the install to a removable drive..

For a windows to go - we apply windows to the usb device..

Yes it would. If that's not your intent maybe you can clarify what you are trying to do.

Sorry I wasn't being clear.

Let's say I want to boot Linux and Windows 8. I have Windows 8(default) on my Laptop, and Linux on an USB. Now let's say I want to boot Linux off that USB without erasing Windows 8. That's what I'm trying to do.

I was able to solve this my self. Shrinking my main Drive then making a new Drive solved the problem.
