Hi all, I have a laptop that have been installed with Windows 8 by manufacturer, but was downgraded to Windows 7. I`ve got a backup/restore DVD only and wonder how can I get it back to windows 8/8.1. I assume I need to download Windows 8 version (from somewhere) and make some changes in BIOS settings to be able to start the installation. Hopefully then will be able to do system restore from the DVD. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks, what about BIOS settings, do I need to disable/enable anything to be able to run this installation? I`m sure secure boot had to be disabled and boot option was changed, otherwise Win 7 wouldn`t be installed.

windows 8.1 will install with or without secureboot and will install in legacy or UEFI mode..

What you may want to do - is reset your BOIS firmware to it's default settings

I have created bootable USB stick straight from the link you have provided, have reset BIOS to factory settings and changed boot to USB. Everything has worked and was completed within few minutes. Using the same windows account, laptop was setup to the last saved settings before it was downgraded and is running genuine version without adding a key. However, I have a feeling like no drivers have been installed. I still need to check this.
In other words, everything is up and running and new installation was completed within 30-40 minutes.

Many thanks for your help
