The free Vista Start Menu button works great on it.

I went to the Windows.old folder and installed Windows Media Player. I'm not sure what is giving me DVD playback, because my DVD player had codecs already installed, but it works fine.

Windows 7 had DVD playback built in, surely 8 does too

In fact MS is being sued for it

No, the new version of Windows 8 Preview Edition does NOT support DVD playback. Your built-in DVD player probably has a program installed to make it work.

Is that true? I can see it not supporting blue ray maybe (THough it SHOULD), but since Windows 7 has DVD out of the box then Win 8 should have it (Unless that lawsuit really scared them).

[Edit] I'm seeing others say the same thing, if that's so... what a step backwards. :/ Apple may have declared the spinning plastic disk dead, but the reality is, that's still a few years off. [/edit]

Can the release preview be installed over the consumer preview? I installed consumer as the only OS on my hard drive and dont feel like backing up all the files i've downloaded.

Yes, you can upgrade by selecting upgrade option but I prefer a clean install.

The Windows.old file is helpful, but it has its problems. Some of the problems wee solved by dragging old files out of "Windows Programs 86" and dropping them into the same folder on the new version., I had to re-download two programs, but they work fine.

I've got Aero! Finally, I've got Aero! The Preview Version must have straightened out my monitor, and...and...

Were they really serious about this?
