Solved Integrating Drivers into Windows 8.1 Installation CD

Greetings!

I've recently done a full revamp of my System including a new Motherboard that comes with an Intel® I218V Gigabit LAN Controller ( see Motherboard Specifications ) that won't work off the beat with the Windows 8.1 supplied Drivers which basically means that during the Windows 8 Personalization Procedure I'm not able to access my Microsoft Account and have it load a Backup to automatically install apps and preferences - Connecting to the Account afterwards won't produce the same results which is rather disappointing.

So I was wondering if it's possible to make a new Windows 8.1 Installation that comes with the necessary Network Driver?
Preferably with a Tutorial ;)

Or is there maybe a method that would allow the installation of the Network Driver before creating a Local Account in order to access the Restore Backup Function supplied during the Personalization Procedure?

Thanks in Advance!
Durahl =)

Hi

Yes, it is possible. You can integrate LAN driver to the Windows install image by using the command line tool DISM. If you never used it before, i would recommend reading the official documentation https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/hh825099.aspx

Here is how you you should add drivers to the install image : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/hh824971.aspx

Please note that DISM can only service Windows install images which are in WIM format. Retail install discs usually came with WIM images. However digital downloads may be in ESD format which can't be serviced by DISM currently ( only Apply operation is supported ).

If you think it's a little difficult to handle the command line, there is also a GUI front end available which is written in DotNet : DISM GUI 4.0 Utility - Free tool to manage WIM images - ESX Virtualization

Thanks Guys!

With the combination of both your suggestions I was able to create an Installer that included the necessary Drivers.

Even though it took me like ages to get it done I can call it a success =)
