I had win8 (8.1 installed before, but hard some hardware fail, replaced CPU< and video card. installed Win8 and wiping my newish hard drive. When the screen comes up, is to login in. When I loaded the Win8, it forced me to give a name, but I didn't use a password.) It let me put a user name. I don't need security and Windows always makes me put names and passwords, but is not mandatory on install for password.

But, now I cannot log into the login, it demands a password! There is no password! I looked up on how to change the password.. I found a tool that supposedly lets you go to an account with password reset. I have another computer with Win8 and tried to use the tool there to make a reset tool, from accounts.. That reset tool doe snot work with the USB stick, I fill it out and give the info it asks.. but it still does not do anything when I try to put the account password it asks for, it just does nothing, rejects the attempt.. fails..

How can I get past that password b.s. on the new install! How can I make the reset password usb stick get made on another copy if the reset thing doesn't work! I hate all this password crap, for home users it is only a nightmare!

btw, I have 35 years in computers, and one of my degrees is electronic engineering, did lots of computer work when younger. I just can't hack my way through this crappy password b.s.!

Now just use home computer and build them, when I need a new one.

Again, it demanded a user name, but let me leave the password area blank, now it demands a password to get past login! Does anyone know how to get logged in

Thank you! I know one of the very smart people here would know! I did search for an answer, but usually end up with someworthless link back to Micrososft..

I did a brand new clean install, reformatted my 1TB Sata hard drive, partition c, installed win8 again. it demand a login. When installing it asked for user name, I put there, then left password blank. If it were absolutely needed when starting up and logging in, why did it NOT tell me it was mandatory to put a password in during setup. The user name was mandatory. Anyways.. do I really have to install it install it again?... that makes no sense. it is not even been logged into yet.. and already it does this?

I hope I am being clear. I have not even got into the screen passed login, yet....

A password is not mandatory.. Did you setup a local account? or microsoft account?

Maybe you hit a period or something??

To remove the password issue - reinstall windows...

Instead of installing win 8 which will then be updated to windows 8.1 anyway.. Just install windows 8.1

Here is an idea,
install windows and give a password.
after you are done installing, go into settings and change it to boot all the way to the desktop without asking for a password.
it should work without giving a password, but if it does not, this is the workaround.

just got my video card back... when I boot with my win8 disk... I go into:
[net user] I try every combination possible of adding a password, changing the password, etc.. still no log in...
the stupid tools they try to sell you are worthless for password change recovery, unless you buy them...

well, I ended-up re-installing Win8. Just hate all the hassle... still wish they wouldn't force passwording on us. If you want passwords, then install an extra app. or let us choose up front. IMHO

They only force a password if you use a Microsoft account. If you use a local account no password is required unless you want to add it.

Also if you unplug the computer from the internet while installing it won't ask you for a Microsoft Account set up, you can use a local account with out a password. this is not recommended since the account would be Admin account and give access to anyone probing your network from the outside through your router.
