Hello !
Is possible to install windows 8.1 in only one partition (GPT ) ( There are at least three in a default installation ).
Thank you !

My Computer

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8.1
The efi partition is formatted fat32 and the windows partition is formatted in ntfs - so no

Ok 2 partition , but what about the third partition that is created by default when installing windows 8 ? ( And on windows 8 (MBR style ) is possible to use only 1 partition for installation)

The third partition (not seen) is a 128MB Microsoft reserved partition..

Yes using Legacy support (MBR) only one partition is needed..

Boot setup via legacy support - format drive as one partition and install windows

So in the above image , why I need partition 1 and partition 4 ?
Even in legacy MBR , the default installation mode of windows 8 create 2 partition the first 100Mb and Windows 8 partition , but it's possible to install without the first 100Mb partition.

In GPT , it's possible to install only with UEFI partition and Windows 8.1 partition ?
Thank you !

Usually the first partition is (winre) recovery tools and it is 300-350MB

Yours being 100MB tells me it is acting a place holder with maybe a few files..

Open command prompt(admin)
type> reagentc /info

post a pic..

You can also use diskpart to assign a drive letter to that 100MB volume so you can browse its contents

Type> diskpart
type> select disk 0
type> list volume

you will see a lot of volumes without drive letters assigned..
Now find the 100MB volume #

type> select volume # (# being the volume number without a drive letter)
type> assign letter=s

now you can browse the partition contents

I don't understand why you wrote all these explanation ?
My question was simple :
In GPT , it's possible to install windows 8.1 , only with UEFI partition and Windows 8.1 partition ( so only 2 partition ) ?
Thank you !

Yes on 2 partitions and one MSR partition (3 Total)

the other 2 are recovery partitions and not needed until your system fails..

Not allowing the first recovery partition - only writes it to the windows partition anyway..

Yes , but the question was with 2 ( EFI+System Partition ). So without the third (MSR) is not possible ?

Test it.........

Since I have not given you the answer you are looking for... (twice)

I use a setup with - 4 or more partitions

A Default UEFI-GPT setup is with 4 partitions
