When you click custom, and you see your hard drive as unallocated space, 800 GB, after highlighting it, should you then click 'format' or 'next/new'?

My Computer

  • OS
    Windows 10 Pro x 64
    Computer type
    PC/Desktop
    System Manufacturer/Model
    Dell XPS 8300, Dell Inspiron 15 R N5010
    Memory

    Graphics Card(s)
    Nvidia GE force 420
    Hard Drives
    1TB
    Browser
    Edge, Chrome
    Antivirus
    Defender, MBAM, Router
Either way will work. However, If you install using MBR style:

  1. If you first format then Windows will install without 350MB partition
  2. If you click next without formatting, Windows will create a 350MB Recovery partition then install the rest in C drive.

I'd recommend clicking Next and letting the Windows installer setup the partitions it needs.
