How to install windows-7 on new pc with windows 8.1

Hi Folks, My wife just bought a new laptop notebook, HP pavilion 17, with-8.1 already installed, It has 6GB ram, 64-bit, 1Tb hardrive, She hates the 8.1 os, she has been so used to windows-7, So I partitioned the drive in half roughly 441gb a piece, I do have the windows-7 disc and tried to install it but gets to a certain point then stops, I have googled it and it say's that it has something to do with the new operating system setup, Could anybody help me step by step on how to install the windows-7 on the new volume, Thanks.

    Welcome to the Forums.

Windows 8.x has GPT formatted HD rather than the old MBR type. See this Tutorial for Dual Boot Setup

Thanks Miles Ahead, I checked out the tutorial but that seems to be installing a windows 8 on a windows-7 system,
to install a windows-7 on a new pc with windows-8 has something to do with the new hardrives are UEFI partitioned
as GPT and the windows-7 is MBR, But there has to be a way around that, Thanks

My local place had to disable UEFI's Secure boot, and click a few choices from UEFI to Legacy. And, the main tech had to pull off heatsinks, read the chipsets and other doodads, goto original manufacturers, download and install their chipset and doodad drivers, finally clean up and install my COA into Windows 7 Professional. They used my Microsoft "blue-disk" product key/COA to finalize, to finish, the install.
Maybe your computer won't take all of that.

Sorry. I seem to make the wrong assumption that on a Windows 8 forum the machine would have W8 so a dual boot would be about adding an older OS. I think it would only make sense to have separate physical drives. GPT and UEFI for W8 and MBR/Legacy for W7. If the user hates W8 why keep it on? It just complicates matters. I would enable Legacy and go MBR unless you just must have HD larger than 2 TB.

Instead of trying to erase and format what is there I'd just buy another drive and put Windows 7 on it. R&R the drive that came with the machine to the W7, if it's possible.

I think this is a lot of work with Windows 10 release later in the year.

It won't cost you a thing, and it should be a nice compromise for those that can't get that feeling for 8. I can't express to you how much better Windows 8 feels in performance and stability, but that's just opinion I guess.

Or install Classic Shell to get your Start menu back in the meantime.

    Just my 2 cents.

I would start here Windows 7 Forums is the largest help and support community, providing friendly help and advice for Microsoft Windows 7 Computers such as Dell, HP, Acer, Asus or a custom build. - Search Results for how to install win 7 UEFI

Yes you can install win 7 64 bit UEFI on a GPT Disk.

Where you may have issues is driver for your hardware, those you will have to find and hope that your manufacture has posted win 7 driver for your Model.

I would also recommend Classic Shell, get your win 7 desktop back, on a faster running system.

It has yet to be shown that newer versions of Windows will have Glass to match Vista/Windows 7. So if you are big on stuff like frosted glass clocks and other cool looking utilities you may want to go with W7 until we see what,if any, Glass W10 will have. If the eye candy doesn't matter, then that's not an issue.

But as mentioned, if you can't get W7 drivers that limits your options.
