i have a downloaded version of windows 8.1 on my sony laptop which originally came with vista.
i have a dell desktop handed down to me with windows 7
in changing the user name and password on the dell, i made a typo and cant get past the password screen
i had a bright idea: since i have the product key for the 8.1 install, why not install it on the handed down dell. it installed fine but that is when i discovered i was only authorized and install on one computer.
i would like to find a way to remove the 8.1 install on the dell and get help with the password problem.
if that isnt possible, i need help removing the 8.1 from the sony laptop since i have back up cds with the original vista operating system.

can any or all of this be done?

thanks in advance

You can't do a Refresh if you don't know the administrator password. But you can do a Reset even if you don't know the administrator password and a reset will remove the administrator password.

right now i have a working copy of windows 8.1 on this handed down dell desktop but cannot get online because of the product key issue that. is there a way of getting that copy off that computer and try to solve the password issue on the original operating system, windows 7?
