I am starting up a new computer build. I created a Windows 8 installation DVD from the iso. Upon booting the installation seems to go well but each time, it stops at 55% and goes no further. I am installing to a newly formated Mushkin 240GB SSD drive from a new Blue Ray player.

Hi,

Set Optimized Defaults in the bios then save. Then set the storage to use AHCI mode in the bios then save again.

It could be you're not waiting it out long enough too. Try giving it more time.

The first time I ran the installation, it got to expanding the files and progressed rather quickly and consistently to 55%. Then stayed there for at least an hour. GMan, are you saying that it is normal to take longer than that without a change in progress? The second time I ran it, I waited 30 minutes.

No.

I remember figuring out for people installing Windows 7 to a new ASUS board that they had to enable something that Optimized Defaults did not set well. You had to do it manually. I just woke up. Let my brain start functioning and maybe I'll remember what it is.

I even made a rant against ASUS at the time for it.

Ya ya - Plug and Play OS - set to on or enabled and save. Make sure to also set AHCI after Optimized Defaults are set and same for your graphic card instead of onboard video.

If you still have trouble after those, power off then take out the video card, set onboard integrated video in bios, save, install Windows. When done, power off, install card, set bios to the video adapter, save and boot up.

Should get you going, all of the above.

If not, make a USB installer and use that instead, to install: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...e-usb-dvd-windows-8-consumer-preview-iso.html
