I know this is probably a stupid question but I don't know everything!

Can I update from 32 bit to 64 WTHOUT reinstalling everything?

Internally 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows are very different. So different that Microsoft did not consider a 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade a practical option and did not provide for it. A clean install of the OS and all applications is the only option.

Doing a fresh install is never a bad idea, and if you plan ahead, it can take far less time than you might be thinking. It's a good way to guarantee the computer is up-to-date and running smoothly.
