    Licence Key Question

Hi all, just got a new PC that has Win 8.1 installed on it. I already had an 8 Pro key which I purchased myself. Can I change the key on the new PC to use the Pro edition then use the standard 8.1 key to install a VM or will that key be locked to this machine?

Hello Rendez2k, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since the Windows 8.1 is an OEM copy that came preinstalled, the key will be permanently tied to the motherboard. You won't be able to activate with it on any other PC or VM.

If the Windows 8 Pro is a retail copy, then you could install and activate it on the new PC or VM if you like though.

Keep 8.1 installed, it`s better then 8, even if the 8 is Pro

Do you even need the 3 extra features ?
