I have previously altered my disk partition using easues partition manger. I installed Linux mint after that. I grew tired of Linux and deleted the partition and accidentally deleted the windows re tools and Sony's recovery partition. I downloaded a fresh iso to try to repair it. But no luck. I tried refresh the PC option it completes but all the apps are installed and there is no change before and after. I think there was no refresh. But using easeus I can see the recovery and windows re tools partition. The system works fine. But in case of any fault I can't refresh my PC. Please help.

System One

  • OS
    Windows 8
at command prompt(admin)
Type> diskpart
type> select disk 0
type> list partition
take a snapshot

type> list volume
take a snapshot

Now find the 10-20GB volume #
type> select volume #
type> assign letter=r

Browse thru R and find Install.wim or Install.swm(s) - those are your Factory recovery Images..

type> C:\Windows\System32\Reagentc /Setosimage /Path R:\RecoveryImage /Target C:\Windows /Index 1

assuming the install* file(s) are on "R" and in a folder called "RecoveryImage"

- change drive letter and folder name to suit your system setup

Then go to control panel > recovery > Create a recovery drive..

At that point you will have the factory recovery on a usb stick..

And should be able to reset and refresh using via the factory images..

If your system came with windows 8 and you upgraded to windows 8.1 - when you choose Reset you will go back to windows 8
If you choose Refresh, most likely it will fail with an error..

I'm now using a Ubuntu live CD for my booting. i downloaded a I so of windows 8 to repair I burnt it to a dvd. When I select the boot from CD option it throws another error that the BCD store is corrupt insert the installation media. But it is booting from it only. I don't have a single clue of what's happening. I can't afford to Sony's SUPPORT please help

Make images, then you don't need the recovery partition. I have not had a recovery partition since years but recovered my system many times with the last image taken.

Imaging with free Macrium - Windows 7 Help Forums

To late Now..

And I seen a snap shot of your PC - a recovery image would do you NO good.. You need Image backups, because you have to much stuff to lose....

I am clueless now. I downloaded a win 8 I so 64 bit and made a bootable USB and booted from it. I tried to refresh and reset it says drive locked. When I try fixmbr fixboot it is OK but when I try rebuild BCD it says service not found. I also tried to do a clean install but when I clicked the install button it loads for some time and says that the product keys are not matching. What should I do now ?

If your old installed version was Pro - download Pro
if just win8 then download win 8.1

The setup media reads the embed product key and the windows version must match the embedded key.. Or you have to type in your retail product key

You can not reset or refresh from the booted media - just install

Or when you get to install screen - select repair this computer - bottom left

well it was either regular, pro or single language..

no way to tell what version the product key is for..

so try all three versions, I guess..

Or look for a windows 8 sticker on the PC to help ID the version
