"Choose an OS" Screen after installing Win8.1 on SSD

    Hi everyone,

I've searched around and can't see to find a solution (or this problem) anywhere. Yesterday I installed an SSD to use as my primary drive with my HDD to be used for larger files. With both drives connected, I installed Win8.1 from a USB to the SSD. The installation went well, but I couldn't seem to change the boot order to boot from the SSD. The SSD was recognized in other areas of the BIOS, but specifically not Boot Order. I run an HP ENVY desktop.

I went ahead and just booted anyway, and I got a Win8.1 screen asking me to choose an OS. It had two options, both said Win 8.1, one with partition 7 and the other was partition 4. Partition 7 was the OS installed on the SSD and the Partition 4 was the HDD. Everything seemed fine but whenever I would attempt to boot, it would get stuck at the HP logo, and I had to reboot the computer, go into BIOS, exit BIOS, and only then would it boot to that "choose OS" screen where I would choose the SSD and finally boot properly. This morning it booted straight to the "Choose OS" screen, but I still want to try and figure this problem out.

I already tried to choose a default OS, but the OS on the SSD is already set to default.

Any help would be very much appreciated it. Thanks!

You need to turn on 'Secure Boot' it the UEFI. Then it will boot directly toward Windows 8.1.

It's turned on. I turned it off before because I thought it would help me find the SSD in the boot order. But after installing I reset the bios to default. I just checked now and the secure boot is enabled.

remove the HDD and then run setup.. By default setup want to install on disk 0 - since disk 0 was installed - that is where it wrote the boot files.. thus boot for SSD and HDD

Thanks. So, fixing this would require reinstalling Windows on the SSD? Or is there a way to fix it without losing any data?

remove HDD - boot from setup media - select repair this computer (bottom left of Install Screen)..

Not sure that will work though because the SSD is missing the required partitions..

    But worth a try..
