So does this confirm that I can format Windows8_OS partition and do a clean install without it breaking the OneKey recovery.

I am curious which image is used when I do a Windows 8 reset. I did a reset and it loaded the same Lenovo drivers and software. Thus is it loading the image from the last partition?

How can I create my own custom image to be used for "Reset". The previous guide or link you posted said that that method can only be used for "Refresh".

right now when you reset or refresh - yes it uses the factory image for both.. Because you do not have a custom refresh image...

and yes when you clean install windows 8.1 it will break the factory recovery link..

if you create recovery media - you will be able to restore the factory recovery image and the recovery link..

I would rather know that you created recovery media FIRST - so that way we can manually restore the recovery link later..

Damn. I didn't have a 16GB USB to creative a recovery media. I formatted the the Windows8_OS partition (Partition 5), and did a fresh install. The label "Windows8_OS" also disappeared after formatting.

What can I do now? I did a fresh install, should I make the fresh install with manually installed drivers as the customer recovery image? Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image

Is there a no way to fix the Lenvo OneKey feature or the Lenovo recovery?

What's the big deal with having to have a recovery partition? Not trying to be a smart @ss, just wondering? If you order a set or recovery disks from Lenovo for that model you should be able to restore it to factory state with that. For what it's worth, I made a Recovery Thumb Drive (16 GB) on my ASUS laptop when I got it. After swapping in an SSD, it was useless. All I got was "a required partition is missing" and other errors when trying to reset to the new drive. It seemed like a big waist of time. For me, it's no big deal not having a recovery partition. My two desktop PC's are home built and wouldn't have one anyway. My Laptops came with OEM Windows 8.0 and that's been replaced with clean installs of 8.1. I wouldn't want to use the recovery feature even if it still worked. Still, If you do make your own custom recovery partition, I would be very interested to know if it works.

Since I do a lot of one up pc's, I always create a recovery image partition and it works just fine for Reset and Refresh and it is just 4GB..

I'll have to have a look at the tutorial. It's not something I'd do on one of my systems but it might be wroth while doing on a system I have to resurrect for somebody. Somebody that doesn't have a clue as to how to install Windows the next time they hose their system.

I have a Lenovo piece of junk.. and they are.. i don't care what you think.. (don't make me prove it)

anyway, forget your stupid onekey recovery.. its completely pointless.. its' full of bloatware and crap to slow down your computer.

-if you are worried about your puny little drivers when you clean install windows.. well guess what? lenovo doesn't even keep your drivers updated anyway on their own support site so you have to go get them from each individual manufacture of the peripherals in your computer anyway.. ( i already did it i'ts not that bad.)

-lenovo has shit drivers... crap support and cheap chinese crap..

    1. install fresh clean windows 8.1 whatever version you had when you bought the crappy lenovo..

I completely threw out my original hard drive.. it was slow crappy and full of bloatware..

I paid $120 and you can pay even less.. wake up.

make sure that hard drive is exactly what you need before you buy..

point is. lenovo sux.. don't ever buy again.. and always go ASUS.

oh just for fun! read this! so you will never buy lenovo again right? and if you want to know, the answer is ASUS computers..
