Following a number of good tutorials I installed Windows 8 on a Samsung Series 7 tablet from a bootable USB thumb drive. I created a vhd on a 64 GB micro sdhc card. I was able to choose this vhd as the installation location and Windows 8 appeared to install as expected. However, when the system reboots, it only comes up the the Windows 8 "Windows Recovery Environment". While this screen give options to try again and press F8 for alternate boot options, neither of those work. However, if I hit F9 to use a different OS then Windows 7 boot up lickity split.

I have not had any luck getting this thing to a OS selection screen. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Some drivers cannot be used for booting.
Recovery OS/WinPE is not equal to OS.

Old example - XP can be installed to USB drive but cannot be booted from by default installed driver and loader.
During the boot process devices are reset so reading of next part of OS (kernel, drivers) is not always possible unless special measures are taken (another driver, another boot manager, different setup).

And VHD is on top of driver and file system.

So, I need another driver or boot manager to boot from the micro SDHC card? Any suggestions for something that might work?

Have you tried to install W8 directly to SD card ?
If W8 can boot from SD card natively then you have the same functionality.

Using VHD would be more general - install to VHD once and then move VHD to every possible storage device by simple copy.
