Windows 8.1 Installer Stuck in Loop

I have installed Windows 8 from a USB flash drive on my computer with no problems. Now I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 from a USB flash drive. The logo comes up, but after about 20 or 30 seconds some text flashes on the top left corner of the screen and the computer reboots. This keeps happening over and over...

Hi, when the computer reboots unplug the USB flash drive and let the Windows 8 load normally.

    Hi werty,
Thanks for the reply, but that's not the problem I'm having. The computer is rebooting BEFORE the installation. The installer crashes before it writes anything to the hard drive.

Do you have Windows 8 preinstalled on your PC when you try to install Windows 8.1 via USB drive? Also you should enter BIOS and set it up to boot from your HDD.

    Good luck, werty

I have tried to install on to a drive with Windows 8 and a drive without. I have set the boot order so the USB flash drive is first so the Windows 8.1 installer will run. The HDD is set to boot second.

Sorry for my misunderstanding but you are trying to install Windows 8.1 on two different HDDs one with Windows 8 and an empty one on a same computer?

The Windows 8.1 installer is crashing and it doesn't matter if the HDD has Windows on it or not.

Probably Windows 8.1 is not compatible with your PC. You can try to update BIOS and drivers and try again.

    Good luck, werty

Is Windows 8.1 that much different from Windows 8? That machine had Windows 8 on it.

Hi - new forum member, hope I'm doing this the right way. I have a Samsung NP900x3D (i5 with 128Gb SSD and 4Gb RAM) running running Win 8.0 x64 After several months putting it off I decided to let Windows update itself to 8.1. At some point during the upgrade it stopped and began cycling...
So, since yesterday, Windows 8.1 tries to boot, then gets halfway through, shows a sad face for a second, and then restarts. It does this again and again. Just get the message "Failure configuring Windows updates. Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer" then "Configuring Windows updates, 30%...
My desktop came preloaded with Windows 8 so no install discs. Have only had it a week and didn't yet make a recovery disc. Everything was working wonderfully as I got used to the new Windows 8 from my old pc running Xp. Three days ago I did a restart for Windows to update to 8.1 and all was good....
About a week ago I had the same exact problem. When I would turn on my pc it would try to diagnose my computer, repair it, and then fail and find no problem. I didn't find any solutions that could help me so I did a fresh install. Now its happening all over again. I originally thought the problem...
I haven't installed anything lately and I can only think that it was maybe due to shutting down the computer directly from the power button (heard sudden shut downs could cause problems). I tried startup repair, I tried doing a "refresh" but it won't accept the cd, I tried doing a safe mode...
Here's a quick summary of what I think caused this issue. I was using the computer, when the power went out for like half a second, the computer ended up restarting, and while starting up, the power went out. When the power came back, I wasn't able to get past the Blue window's icon with a swirly...
I am attempting to install the dev preview onto a spare hdd to dual boot between Win 7 and 8. I have used the windows store tool to write the iso to a usb drive. I am happy that this is correct (a colleague has used the drive and installed successfully on a different computer). So far though...
