    Can't restore system image, 8.1 pro, 0x80004005

So my issue is that I can't restore a system image I made. I was running 8.1 update 1 and created an image before trying to upgrade my Ubuntu to Fedora on the other side of the SSD.
I ended up screwing it all up in royal fashion somehow. Anyway, I deleted all of it, started fresh and installed via my DVD in UEFI mode (4 partitions so I know that's right.)

I then try to reboot to the DVD after install and restore my image. It ends up giving me the cryptic error 0x80004005 and says "The system image restore failed."

Afterwards, it seems that corrupts the UEFI somehow as it doesn't show up in the boot order when trying to get back into it. Anybody have any ideas on how to overcome this?

I'm definitely not averse to any cmd work but I haven't seen anything that can help me so far.

Edit- I have also wiped it clean and tried to restore it without any partitions and then just one big one with NTFS all with diskpart. Just nothing working.

Was the system image captured with 4 partitions (UEFI-GPT) or 3 partitions (MBR)

I have to say 4. I installed that first and I know the drive was partitioned GPT.

For anyone looking at this thread now....you are too late. I hope you made a clonezilla backup or other as I've scoured the internet and have found nothing to help. MS System Image tool is a freaking joke. Please use other software as MS is not competent enough to include a tool that actually works with its own OS.

I went and put the stock Win8.1 back on, updated all of it, and used Ninite to get programs back on (basically a fresh install.) Sorry those who will find this thread won't find any good news.

After you install windows, install drivers, install programs, install windows updates..

Then you create a custom refresh image - to be used for recovery reset and recovery refresh..

Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image

I never had luck with windows system backups..

Thanks to both of you. I'll look at both of these in the future. Still a little bit upset about it but, not the first time I've borked my system and won't be my last.
