heh heh That is the Device Manager, which really doesn't help too much here. We need screenshots of Disk Management, which shows all of your storage and how it is setup.

But anyhow, I notice in your Windows 7, you're missing the SMBus controller driver, which is repsonsible for power management. You should look into installing the correct chipset drivers for Windows 7. It's likely from Intel, so you can let Intel's website scan and install the latest drivers for you: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=eng

The problem is that you have Windows 8 as a Logical drive. Change that over to a Primary partition and then you should be able to install well to it, or even save the install you already did on it. (I figured this, so that's why I asked for Disk Management screenshot.)

Thanks - this may sound stupid. Do I have to re format to change to primary partition..

No. I *think* you need a 3rd party tool such as Acronis or similar to do that though.

If you boot to GParted live disk, that can also do it.

Hrrrmmm...you might not be letting it do its thing long enough and just assuming it failed.

Other than that, it's not a bad idea to set Optimized Defaults in the bios then save.

It went on to the black screen for about 20 mins?

I will leave it on the setup from when I come in tomorrow evening and see if it works leaving it to do its thing all evening

Heh, nah it shouldn't have a black screen for 20 minutes. You'd be surprised though...people in the past have waited like 20 seconds and thought it failed.

Ya though...even if there is a problem, leaving it can't hurt to try because it may eventually work its way through it...as long as no error messages. Watch the disk activity. If that stops too for a really long time, then that's a good sign it really is not doing well at all. If there is activity, the system may just come to life after time.
