I looked up about a program called "Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 4.0" and what it's said to do is move windows, registry etc to the SSD, and keep all the programs to the HDD I own. So basically, I boot on SSD, All programs on hard drive.

So im looking for a program which will put windows on my SSD, A direct copy of the core windows, And then copy my whole registry of programs not :winkey: stuff and change it all from C:/ to D:/ so it looks to my hard drive.

Is there a free program like this? Ill need detailed instructions.
And what's the procedure of the program.

Thanks in advance,
James.

I put apps on the SSD too, unless the SSD is tiny.

Lots of programs to take an image from one drive and apply it to another. Macrium Reflect free is free and easy to use.

The Paragon Migration Tool is the easiest way to migrate your OS including the installed programs and all the stuff on it. The data has to of course fit on the SSD.

If you want the programs on another drive (which is not the smartest setup), then you have to uninstall those programs and reinstall them directing the program files to the other disk at installation time. There is no way to move installed programs.

If you want to do the migration with Macrium as Patrick recommends, see my tutorial:

I've used the Paragon tool and I think you're misinterpreting what they say. Their website now has a video showing how the tool works and where they have an "exclusion" option, it's mislabeled; it's the opposite. They show excluding system files and applications in the migration where, clearly from the results, they are including those, not excluding them.

I would not try to have the apps on the HDD, even if you can, because they use the Registry, which is going to be on the SSD. SO, you'll actually be splitting app components between the two drives -- not a good thing to do.

Yes my experience would direct you too, Clean install your OS to the SSD, then install all the latest drivers from your manufacturers web site for your computer!!

Then install your software on either drive, I personally have a Samsung 850 pro 256 GB. All my important programs are install on that 256GB SSD MS Office 2007, CS4, AutoCAD.
I use my DATA drive for storing Data, Libraries, and seldom used programs all my Program installed have the Data files directed to my DATA drive.

You could clone your hard drive to your SSD, then just redirect them to save files to your hard drive, move all your Data Libraries to your hard drive you know Documents, Music, pictures Video's, download etc.

Personally, events like this, getting a new SSD. For me it the perfect time to make a fresh install of he OS and Programs solves a lot issues going on A clean new Registry solves a lot of problems and Issues. And you won't reinstall a lot of crap you have installed and don't use. The Tutorial section has tutorials to help you do every thing you want to do. You should always have about 15% of the SSD free - for Trim/garbage collection. The OS takes about 20GB and then the programs - normally not more than 10GB (more with games). All the rest can go on the spinner.

Moving apps to HDD is counterproductive, You don't get any benefits of SSD's speed than. It's much better to just redirect programs to save data on HDDs only.

That hasn't been my experience. I've done both, clean install and cloning and haven't had issues either way. Cloning may mean you need to check the partition alignment to make sure it's aligned for best operation but all of the ones I've cloned and checked, the partition has been properly aligned.
